I had been barbecuing for years and was always the one doing the grilling or smoking at family get-togethers. Eventually, that led to cooking for friends and an annual hog roast. It was never a burden or inconvenience for me, I just loved to do it. I guess you could say it is a true passion of mine which has developed into a full time job.
Everyone loved my BBQ and said I should go into business selling it. After all of the backyard cookouts, sitting around with friends having a few cold beverages, always discussing BBQ, I finally decided to start my own catering business that focused on serving the best BBQ experience, with food and service that each customer will never forget.
I’d have to say first, that I had no idea what I was getting into. I bought a Lang Cooker from Georgia and it has proven to be the best smoker I’ve ever used! It uses indirect heat, and with the help of hickory wood and charcoal, I can cook everything from a hotdog to a whole hog on that thing! The cooking part came easy, but I owe a lot to my sister Carole, who helped me with the business side of things, and also helped develop my menu. Thank you Carole! With her help, I started Buckeye Boys BBQ in 2003, and every year it has grown bigger and better. I have never advertised – everyone who tries my BBQ advertises for me. After all, word of mouth IS the best advertising!
I would also like to thank my daughter, Alyssa. She’s only eleven years old, and though you don’t see many children her age interested in helping BBQ, she is always eager to help! (BUT, her labor doesn’t always come cheap)! Thank you to all of my friends and family who have helped me and given up a lot of sleepless nights. I cannot thank you enough!
